Ideas to Action Specialist for Culminating Experience
The primary responsibility of the I2A Specialist for Culminating Experience will be to work with the academic units and other university programs to develop culminating experiences that best fit each University of Louisville discipline capstone courses, internships, research projects, and/or other activities that help to utilize and apply critical thinking concepts. The culminating experiences are one way the University will enhance the “Ideas to Action” initiative, using critical thinking to foster student learning and community engagement. The functions of the I2A Specialist for Culminating Experience are as follows:
-Creatively lead and provide training to faculty to help incorporate culminating experiences effectively into the curriculum.
-Demonstrate broad knowledge about capstone courses, internships, research projects, and/or other activities that help to utilize and apply critical thinking concepts.
-Provide leadership in incorporating community-based, culminating experiences into unit-specific curriculum associated with the “Ideas to Action” initiative.
-Cultivate strong relationships between the Signature Partnership Initiative and undergraduate departments for dynamic culminating experiences.
-Attend and prepare for meetings appropriate to the role of the I2A Specialist for Culminating Experience.
-Attend conferences on culminating experiences and SACS accreditation as necessary.
-Provide leadership in writing the findings of the culminating experiences portion of reports related to the “Ideas to Action” initiative.
-Exhibit the ability to work cooperatively with faculty members and administrators across disciplines.
-Provide leadership in identifying and developing methods for tracking culminating experiences throughout the University curricula.
-Coordinate faculty outreach activities with other I2A Specialists and “Ideas to Action” Executive Director.
-Demonstrate broad knowledge of research and scholarship in the field of community engagement.
-Design, implement and assess culminating experiences.
-To complete other duties as assigned.
Term of Service
The “I2A Specialist” is a full-time (twelve month) appointment reviewed annually. Initial review of applications will begin April 30, 2008, with applications reviewed continuously until the position is filled with position beginning July 1, 2008.
Qualifications
Earned doctorate (strongly preferred), will consider a masters degree with substantial experience in developing capstone courses, internships, research projects, and/or other activities that help to utilize and apply critical thinking concepts. Possess skills in facilitating the development of effective community-based culminating experiences campus-wide; knowledge of faculty development pedagogy; salary negotiable depending on experience and credentials.
